I ordered and received a few copies of the book 'Chutki's Experiences', authored by Shamalatha Rao of Bangalore. The book is a delightful. Narrates sad animal stories with sweetness and sympathy. Makes references to the Laws of the land. Provides a happy ending to Chutki's plight. Illustrations are simply endearing.
For all who want to do any kind of educational outreach of kind and responsible animal treatment, this is a very useful resource book.
We are intending to distribute the book to different schools around here.
Congratulations, Shamalatha!

I have recently got hold of a copy of the above cited small booklet, and let me say how wonderfully you have written such a readable and informative text, with beautiful illustration by Ms. Varsha Achar, on what would appear to be such a dry subject to many. Please accept heartiest congratulation on this great achievement.

I am not surprised you are a teacher. And if you arent already I am pretty sure you would do wonderfully giving lectures/talks on animal rights/awareness in schools.
Prithvi's quite taken by the book and made me read it twice:). I did tone down the language a bit (egthe death trap) as sometimes he gets very emotional hearing about death. At 6 he's full of questions and once when he asked my mom about whether she was going to die someday, she said yes and he wept for hours. He did enjoy hearing about hanuman raja (he loves reading about Hanuman) and I think it worked as an eye opener for him. Like I said, he's not indifferent to animals but he's not in love with them either. Must expose him to more and more animals. Also gave one copy to his teacher.
Little by little awareness towards animals is going to grow in India.

Hi Shamalatha, its an excellent book, well written, precise and give all the info in a nutshell. My mother read it as well and loved it. If we could circulate it w/ the RWA it would be an excellent idea. Unfortunately, my colony is opposed to dogs and i cannot even suggest this to the association members. :(:(. But am going to make it a habit to carry this book in my handbag at all times. I will pay for the 8 copies as my little contribution towards our lovely four-legged friends.

Got Chutki’s Experiences from Bangalore today. It’s a nice, easy to understand book ( 22 page) with Animal Welfare Rules written as footnotes. Very good read for students. Should be made part of the curriculum.
All NGOs should try & distribute the book.
Costs only Rs.60 each. I have ccd Shamalatha Rao. Write a mail to her & buy some copies for your NGOs/ volunteers .
Spread the message.

I had given your book to one class VI kid to read and she had a nice things to say, especially about the little law anecdotes at the bottom of the page. At the end she felt that she knows everything including what she can do and what she cannot. So I am going to be giving these books to class VI kids. If possible, will let you know what they think about it.

Hope to read more such stories in future, maybe about other animals as well.

I was curious that If making a comic book out of the same story came into your mind? If not, I strongly believe this story will make a great comic book which will be more interesting and effective for the kids.
I ordered these books first to read by myself and then make my friends and family members read.
I will try to work towards making these wonderful books available to Delhi school kids.

It is really a very good one. Many of the aspects of Animal's pain was well illustrated. I'm sure it will be well understood by the children. Now, its our duty to take it to them at the earliest!
Though I have watched many slaughter videos and read and have seen animal sufferings with my own eyes, esp dogs on the street, when the story ended with a question, "But who will take care of the remaining dogs,Mom?? ", I had wet eyes and as I type this too, its the same....
I hope their pain comes to an end very soon.... I'm just doing the little I can, by fostering pups with vegan diet and find them homes.... this is the small work I do now!

A kid reading Shamalatha's inspiring Chukti's Experiences. I also got a chance (at last) to read and buy the must read book (for kids and adults alike). Deep issues (eg. why animals, unlike humans, can't commit crimes; how we should treat our companion animals; how do animals - cows, monkeys for entertainment - feel about our treatment of them) are communicated articulately, without gore. Thank you, Shamalatha for the wonderful book!

Its an awesome book, and I enjoy reading it to my 2.5 yr old son, who doesn't
understand anything yet, but soon will!! :0) He keeps saying proudly "I'm vegan", and will not
touch anything if I say its not vegan. I am sure hes going to enjoy reading the book over ans
over again when he starts to read!! :0)

Trust you are well and busy with your work. I don't know how to express my happiness to you after going through the content of your book and sharing them with slum kids. And Chutki had a adventure on the way to delhi and travelled via New York!!
Again I don't know how to express the joy of kids - they just loved it. Twenty children peering on the content of two books and using their best ability to read the content in english. The kids attend Govt. school and their knowledge of english is very limited but they tried their best to enjoying the content and illustrations. I wish I could have the book in hindi so that children could understand everything and share with their parents and school friends. I am planning to meet the principal of MCD school to take permission to share the book with rest of the school kids.Thank you so much for a beautiful gift of 'Chutki's Experience'.

Greetings from AWBI.
Please accept our heartiest congratulation for brining out “Chutki’s Experiences”. It is indeed an excellent play written by you for creating awareness in school children, civic society to treat animals with respect and compassion. You have also very tactfully provided information and benefits of our Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabies programme for stray dogs along with important Animal Protection Laws.
The Animal Welfare Board of India would like to use it by circulating a copy of your book to all our NGOs for their use in Humane Education programme...................

In my last trip to India, an animal advocate friend of mine, gave me a copy of a short booklet, “Chutki’s Experiences” by A. Shamalatha. It is a children’s play about a small puppy named Chutki and her experiences trying to survive on the streets. The book also includes a lists of Do’s and Don’ts and an FAQ section, which provide advice to concerned residents about animal care. Rather than pitting children against dogs, it strives to make children their advocates.

This is the most educative and simplistic book on dogs I have ever come across. Not only is it short but also comprehensive and educative. Most importantly it has a varied range of readership. This book must be promoted.

I would recommend this book to everyone, not just children. It beautifully touches upon topics related to animal cruelty and creates a sense of awareness and compassion towards the mute, helpless souls who are always looked down and neglected. Very simple and apt for children to introduce them to awareness against animal cruelty. I highly recommend this.

Congrats on your book which I feel is a real need today! Wish you could get it published in Sri Lanka, too. All the best!

Thanks for beautiful article..i always suggest to adopt stray dogs instead of bread dog
